Moroccan Airports Set Traffic Records This Summer

Moroccan airports recorded historic traffic during summer 2026. Over the first weekend of August, Casablanca Mohammed V handled 46,439 passengers in 24 hours. Marrakech Menara exceeded 30,000 and Agadir recorded 11,973, according to the official airport traffic report.

The report describes operational adaptation to that volume. It does not publish queue times, and neither will we: passenger totals do not tell you how long you personally will wait.

What the numbers do tell you

That summer volume through Moroccan airports is at record levels, and that August is the peak of it. The diaspora return overlaps with the European holiday season in the same weeks, which concentrates demand.

What they do not tell you is whether security, passport control or baggage handling performed better or worse than in previous years. We have not seen data on that, and inferring it from a headline passenger figure would be guesswork.

A peak-season checklist

None of this is specific to Morocco, but it is worth being deliberate about in a record summer.

Check your airline’s advice for your specific flight. Recommended arrival times vary by carrier, route and airport, and the airline’s own guidance beats a general rule.

Check in online where you can, while understanding it may not remove every counter step. Document checks, bag drop and visa verification can still require a desk depending on your route and destination.

Treat arrivals, departures and connections separately. They are different experiences with different bottlenecks, and advice about one does not transfer to another.

Give connections margin. Minimum connection times are published for normal operations. On a genuinely busy day, more room is sensible judgement rather than a rule.

If your dates are flexible

Travelling outside the August peak is worth considering, for reasons that go beyond the airport. The interior is cooler from September, coastal towns are less crowded once domestic holidays end, and accommodation prices come down from their peak.

That is a planning option rather than a finding about airport performance. If your travel is fixed by school holidays, the checklist above is the useful part.
