Marrakech Film Festival 2026: Films Announced and How to Attend
The Marrakech International Film Festival has announced its selection for 20–28 November 2026, bringing 76 films from 39 countries to the city. The programme includes new Moroccan cinema, international premieres, family screenings and films competing for the Étoile d’Or.
The 23rd edition’s official selection was announced on 2 November. While the individual screening timetable is still to come, the festival has opened its public e-pass registration.
What’s in the 2026 selection?
Fourteen first or second features compete for the festival’s top prize. Three are scheduled as world premieres: Alkebulan, by Moroccan director Yassine Marco Marroccu; Waves of Silence, by Farzad Samsami, filmed in Morocco; and Cairo Shadows, by Rani and Salem Massalha.
The opening film is Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut. The gala programme also includes Leila et la nuit, inspired by Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui, alongside new films from international filmmakers. Marion Cotillard chairs the competition jury.
Beyond the competition and gala screenings, the festival has Horizons, the 11th Continent, a Moroccan cinema panorama and a section for younger audiences and families. That range matters if you want to attend without following the red-carpet events: the festival is also a chance to discover films that may not receive a wide commercial release in Morocco.
Can visitors attend screenings?
Yes, subject to registration and admission arrangements. The festival offers a free public e-pass for cinema lovers, including visitors to Marrakech. Applicants must be over 18. Once an application is approved, the organiser sends an e-pass and instructions for using the festival app.
An e-pass is not the same as a reserved seat for every screening. Check the published programme, venue and entry arrangements before travelling across the city.
Apply through the festival’s official public accreditation portal. The portal currently lists 28 November 2026 as the public registration closing date, although applying earlier gives more time for processing.
Where are the films shown?
The festival lists the Palais des Congrès, Cinéma Le Colisée and Musée Yves Saint Laurent among its screening venues. The precise film-by-film schedule and availability should be checked on the official festival programme once published.
For visitors planning a trip around the festival, keep accommodation and transport flexible until you know which screenings you want to attend. Our November What’s On guide covers other events taking place across Morocco during the month.
