Casablanca–Essaouira Direct Flights Begin: Schedule and Fares
Direct flights between Casablanca and Essaouira began operating on 1 November 2026, giving travellers another way to reach the Atlantic coastal city without a long road journey. Royal Air Maroc operates the service twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with a reported subsidised economy fare of MAD 400 each way.
The route was inaugurated on 28 October as part of a public partnership to improve connections between Moroccan cities. The limited frequency makes it useful for some itineraries, but less flexible than daily ground transport.
When do the flights operate?
The published launch timetable lists the following local departure and arrival times:
| Day | Casablanca to Essaouira | Essaouira to Casablanca |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday | 16:00–17:20 | 18:00–19:20 |
| Sunday | 08:20–09:40 | 10:20–11:40 |
Flights depart from Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, not a city-centre terminal. The published schedule allows approximately 1 hour 20 minutes in the air and on the ground for each direction. Timetables may change after launch, so confirm your specific date in the airline’s booking system before making onward arrangements.
What does the MAD 400 fare cover?
The launch announcement describes a fixed, subsidised economy fare of MAD 400 per one-way journey. Travellers should check the current booking conditions, baggage allowance, availability and any optional charges before paying. Do not assume the quoted fare covers every service or that seats will be available on the day you want.
The main advantage is not necessarily the ticket price alone. Flying may be convenient if you are already connecting through Casablanca’s international airport. Travellers starting in central Casablanca should also factor in the journey to Mohammed V Airport, check-in and security time.
Who benefits from the new connection?
The flight adds an option for visitors planning to spend time in Essaouira, residents travelling between the two cities, and international passengers connecting through Casablanca.
With just two return services a week, the route is not an automatic replacement for road transport. A short stay that does not align with Wednesday or Sunday departures may still be easier by bus or private transfer. Compare the entire door-to-door journey, especially if you are carrying luggage or arriving late.

A useful link, not a daily shuttle
Essaouira has long attracted visitors for its medina, Atlantic coastline and cultural scene. Better air links could make it easier to combine the city with other stops, but the practical test will be whether the timetable works for travellers beyond the initial launch.
Before booking: check the operating day, departure airport, baggage conditions and connection time. If your plans depend on a particular return date, confirm that a flight actually operates that day.
