How to Plan a Morocco Golf Trip Without a Tour Operator

Tour operators make Morocco golf trips easy. They book the flights, the hotel, the tee times, and the transfers. Compare their total price and inclusions with direct bookings before choosing. If convenience is your top priority and budget is not a concern, there is nothing wrong with a package. But if you want to choose your own courses, stay where you like, and keep more of your money, planning independently is straightforward.

This guide walks through the entire process: flights, accommodation, booking tee times, transport, and the logistical details that are specific to Morocco.

Step 1: Choose Your Base

Marrakech offers the most courses (10+) and the richest off-course experience. It is the right choice if you want variety in your golf and world-class cultural attractions between rounds. Agadir is better for summer trips, beach lovers, and golfers who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. El Jadida and Essaouira suit golfers who want a focused one- or two-course experience combined with a coastal getaway.

For a first trip, Marrakech is the standard recommendation. For repeat visitors or mixed golf-and-beach groups, Agadir is worth considering. For serious golfers who have played the Marrakech courses and want something different, the Mazagan links at El Jadida is the destination.

Step 2: Book Flights

Compare flights from your own departure airport to Marrakech Menara (RAK), Agadir Al Massira (AGA) and Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN). European travellers have numerous route options; long-haul travellers should compare the full connection and ground transfer rather than the headline airfare.

Royal Air Maroc lists nonstop New York–Casablanca flights. A ticket sold to Marrakech does not necessarily mean a nonstop flight: check the operating carrier, intermediate stops and total duration before paying. Casablanca airport also requires an onward transfer if your golf base is Marrakech; the city-to-city train time is not the full airport-to-hotel journey.

Royal Air Maroc’s sports-equipment page lists the first golf bag up to 23 kg among its free sports-equipment allowances. Confirm the conditions for your ticket and operating carrier. For any airline, check the current golf-bag rules for the exact fare and route. Weight limits, advance-booking requirements and charges differ. Add equipment charges and transfers to the comparison before choosing a flight.

Step 3: Book Accommodation

In Marrakech, you have three zones: the medina (traditional riads, cultural immersion, limited vehicle access), Gueliz and Hivernage (modern hotels, restaurants, city center), and the Palmeraie or Route de Ouarzazate area (resort hotels near the courses). Golfers who want to minimize travel time to courses should consider hotels in the Palmeraie or along the Route de Ouarzazate. For a medina stay, allow for the walk to a vehicle pickup and a transfer to the specific course; traffic and course location can make it substantially longer than 20 minutes.

Booking.com, Airbnb, and direct hotel websites all work in Morocco. Riads often offer better rates when booked directly through their own website or by email. For resort hotels with golf packages (Fairmont Royal Palm, Tikida Golf Palace, Mazagan Beach Resort), the hotel’s own website frequently has the best bundled rate.

Step 4: Book Tee Times

Compare course quotes and booking platforms, including any fees and cancellation conditions. Three options:

igolfmorocco.com is the most comprehensive platform for booking green fees at Moroccan courses. It covers courses in Marrakech, Agadir, El Jadida, Essaouira, Rabat, Tangier, Fes, and Saidia. Prices are listed in MAD and EUR, and booking is instant for most courses.

leclub-golf.com offers standard and discounted “Classic card” rates at a similar range of courses. The Classic card costs a one-time fee but provides 15 to 20 percent savings on green fees, which pays for itself in two or three rounds.

Direct contact by email or phone with the course pro shop works at all Moroccan clubs. This is the method to use if you want to negotiate group rates for four or more players, ask about twilight specials, or arrange a caddy in advance.

Step 5: Arrange Transport

If you are playing courses in one area (all Marrakech Palmeraie courses, for example), taxis work fine. A taxi from the medina to the Palmeraie costs 80 to 120 MAD each way. Agree on the fare before getting in.

If your itinerary includes courses in multiple areas or cities, rent a car. Rates start at approximately 250 MAD per day for a compact car, and fuel costs roughly 14 to 16 MAD per liter for gasoline. The highway network is excellent between major cities. Reserve at least a week in advance through Europcar, Hertz, or local agencies like Medloc.

Sample 5-Day Independent Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Marrakech Menara Airport. Taxi to medina riad. Evening walk through Jemaa el-Fna, dinner in the medina.

Day 2: Morning round at Assoufid or PalmGolf Ourika. Afternoon at leisure: souk shopping, Bahia Palace, or hammam spa.

Day 3: Morning round at Royal Golf Marrakech (the historic experience). Afternoon cooking class or Atlas Mountains drive.

Day 4: Morning round at Montgomerie or Amelkis. Afternoon at the Majorelle Garden and Gueliz restaurants.

Day 5: Check out. Optional morning round at Samanah if time allows. Transfer to airport.
