Golf in Agadir and the Atlantic Coast: Year-Round Golf in the Sun

Agadir is Morocco’s answer to the question: where can I play golf in summer without melting? While Marrakech shuts down for golfers from June through August, the Atlantic coast around Agadir stays between 20 and 28 degrees year-round, with a reliable sea breeze that makes afternoon rounds not just possible but pleasant.

The golf infrastructure is smaller than Marrakech (five courses versus ten-plus), but the quality is genuine and the integration of beach, surf culture, and golf creates a trip that works for mixed groups where not everyone wants to spend four days on the fairway.

The Courses

Golf du Soleil is the anchor of Agadir golf, with two 18-hole courses set among palm trees, eucalyptus, and tamarisk. The Championship course has hosted Challenge Tour events and is the more demanding of the two, with well-defended greens and strategic bunkering. The Tikida course winds through eucalyptus forest and is more forgiving. Green fee for Tikida Golf Palace hotel guests: 680 MAD for 18 holes. The resort offers a David Leadbetter Academy for lessons and swing analysis.

Tazegzout Golf is the most visually dramatic course in Agadir, perched on a cliff at Taghazout Bay. Kyle Phillips designed the 76-hectare layout to preserve existing argan trees and maximize ocean views. Every hole has a vista. The downside: wind. Essaouira-level wind is common here, and it turns an already challenging course into a genuine test. The Hyatt Place hotel at Taghazout Bay sits right next to the clubhouse.

Golf Les Dunes offers 27 holes across three distinct 9-hole loops. Designed by Cabell B. Robinson in 1991, it features four large lakes and rolling terrain. This is arguably the best overall value in Agadir, with reliable course conditions and lower green fees than Tazegzout. Golf de l’Ocean is an older, simpler course that suits beginners and casual golfers. Royal Golf Agadir rounds out the options.

Golf Plus Beach: The Agadir Combo

Agadir’s real appeal for golf travelers is the combination of golf mornings and beach afternoons. The main beach stretches for 10 kilometers of clean sand with a promenade lined by cafes and restaurants. After 18 holes at Golf du Soleil, a 15-minute drive puts you on the beach with a fresh fish lunch for 80 MAD.

Taghazout, the surf village 15 minutes north of Agadir, has become a destination in its own right. Non-golfing partners or friends can take surf lessons (300 to 500 MAD for a half day), visit the argan oil cooperatives in the hills behind the coast, or explore the weekly souk in the nearby town of Aourir.

The safety profile of Agadir is excellent for tourists. The city is modern, well-organized, and has less of the hustle that characterizes Marrakech’s medina. For golfers who want a relaxed trip without navigating souks and fending off touts, Agadir is the easier option.

Getting There and Getting Around

Agadir Al Massira Airport receives direct flights from the UK (Ryanair, easyJet, TUI), France, Germany, and Scandinavia. Flight time from London is approximately 3.5 hours. A taxi from the airport to the hotel zone costs 200 to 300 MAD (agree on the price before getting in).

Within Agadir, taxis are cheap and plentiful. A ride across the city rarely exceeds 30 MAD. Golf du Soleil runs a free shuttle from ten major beachfront hotels, which is the most convenient option if you are staying on the seafront and playing their courses. For Tazegzout and Golf Les Dunes, a taxi or rental car is necessary.

Renting a car in Agadir is straightforward and opens up day trips to Essaouira (2.5 hours north for a round at Mogador plus lunch in the medina) or south along the coast toward Tiznit and Mirleft. The roads around Agadir are well maintained and significantly calmer than driving in Marrakech or Casablanca.

Where to Stay

The beachfront hotel zone runs along Boulevard Mohammed V and the seafront. The Tikida Golf Palace is the obvious choice for dedicated golfers, with direct access to Golf du Soleil and golf-inclusive packages. The Sofitel Agadir Thalassa, Royal Atlas, and Riu Tikida Beach are all solid four- and five-star options along the seafront.

For a more independent setup, apartments and apart-hotels in the Sonaba and Founty neighborhoods offer self-catering accommodation at lower prices. The Hyatt Place at Taghazout Bay is the best option if you want to combine golf at Tazegzout with the surf village atmosphere.
