TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message to Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Sunday called for the expansion of bilateral ties.
“I hope for further development in both countries’ relations,” President Rouhani said in his message congratulating the Moroccan monarch on the occasion of his country’s national day.
The Iranian president also wished the Moroccan people success, welfare, and prosperity.
July 30 marks the anniversary of the national day in Morocco.
In June 2015, Tehran officially reopened its embassy in Rabat and appointed Mohammad Taqi Moayyed as its Ambassador to Morocco to show its resolve to expand all-relations with the North African nation.
Former Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham confirmed that the reopening of Iran’s embassy in Morocco and the appointment of a new ambassador to the North African country show Tehran’s determination to improve ties with Rabat in all fields.
She added that Iran and Morocco also have plans to boost political and economic cooperation, and exchange commercial delegations.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Morocco were severed in 2009 following a series of differences over the regional issues.
The Moroccan officials have announced that a new ambassador to Tehran is to be named soon.
